Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski
Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski was born in Gdynia, Poland. In 1996 he graduated with honours from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Professor Bogusław Madey’s class of symphonic and opera conducting. From January 1997 to April 2011 he was the general director of the Białystok Philharmonic and then, since 2005, the general director of the Podlaska Opera & Philharmonic.
Niesiołowski enjoys an active career, conducting many orchestras in Poland. He also performs abroad, on stages in the United States, Great Britain, Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Spain, Estonia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, the Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Germany, Sweden, France, Belgium and Portugal.
He is also the artistic director and conductor of the Warsaw „Filharmonia” Orchestra and a guest conductor of Teatr Wielki – the National Opera in Warsaw.
Niesiołowski has played many foreign concert tours together with the Orchestra of the Podlaska Opera & Philharmonic. In August 2005, together with pianist Stanisław Drzewiecki, he played in the European Parliament in Brussels at a concert inaugurating the celebrations of the 25th anniversary of the formation of the “Solidarity” trade union. In June 2006 he performed Krzysztof Penderecki’s “Utrenya” in the Smolny Convent in St. Petersburg, with Russian soloists and choirs. In 2009 Niesiołowski performed in the Berwald Halle in Stockholm, and in the hall of the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra. In December 2009 Niesiołowski and the Orchestra of the Podlaska Opera & Philharmonic played in Great Britain, celebrating the “Polska ! Year” in London’s Cadogan Hall and in the Royal College of Music.
The conductor’s concert programmes often include music of Polish composers, including works by lesser-known emigré composers. His recordings of works by Alexander Tansman and Zygmunt Stojowski were received very well in Poland (Fryderyk award nominations) and abroad (in February 2009 the Stojowski CD received the prestigious Gramophone Editor’s Choice award). In April 2012 Niesiołowski received the Fryderyk prize for an album of works by Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
Marcin Nałęcz-Niesiołowski has recorded many albums. He has also made a number of radio and television recordings, and has also recorded music for films composed, among others, by M. Zieliński, W. Pawlik and J.A.P. Kaczmarek). His other artistic activities focus on solo singing, in which he graduated from the Music Academy in Łódź under the direction of Professor Leonard Andrzej Mróz.
Niesiołowski has received many prizes and distinctions, including the Minister of Culture “Ad Astra” award for young, talented creators of culture (2001), the Silver Cross of Merit for his contribution to the development of national culture and for professional achievement (2004) and the the Silver Gloria Artis Medal of Merit (2006).
In 2007 Niesiołowski received the title of doctor of music from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw, going on to obtain the title of doctor habilitatus in 2010.
In October 2012 he took over the position of Professor of symphonic and opera conducting at the Stanisław Moniuszko Academy of Music in Gdańsk.
